TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan," April 20, 2025
MARGARET BRENNAN: Welcome back to "Face the Nation." We turn now to Representative Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania. Congressman, welcome.
REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK: Thank you, Margaret. Good to be here.
MARGARET BRENNAN: The infrastructure bill passed with bipartisan support. What are the key benefits for Pennsylvania residents?
REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK: Well, Margaret, it's a game changer. We're talking about significant investments in our roads, bridges, and public transportation systems, all of which have been neglected for far too long. Specifically, Pennsylvania will receive billions to repair aging infrastructure, create jobs, and improve safety for commuters. We're also investing in broadband expansion to ensure that every Pennsylvanian has access to high-speed internet, which is essential for education, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
MARGARET BRENNAN: There's been some criticism that the bill doesn't go far enough in addressing climate change. How do you respond to that?
REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK: I understand the concerns, and I agree that we need to do more to combat climate change. This bill includes investments in renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure, which are important steps in the right direction. However, it's just one piece of the puzzle. We need a comprehensive approach that includes incentives for innovation, regulations to reduce emissions, and international cooperation.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Looking ahead, what are the prospects for further bipartisan cooperation in Congress?
REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK: That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? Look, I'm a firm believer that we can find common ground if we're willing to listen to each other and compromise. The American people are tired of partisan gridlock. They want us to work together to solve problems. I'm committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find solutions on issues like healthcare, immigration, and economic growth.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Congressman Fitzpatrick, thank you for your time.
REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK: Thank you, Margaret.
MARGARET BRENNAN: And we'll be right back with more on "Face the Nation."
