The number of young golfers is on the rise. According to the National Golf Foundation, 3.7 million kids and teens (ages 6-17) played golf on a course in 2024. This is almost a 50% increase compared to five years ago.
Golfing great Annika Srenstam is working to get even more young people involved in the sport. She has partnered with Bank of America for a program called "Golf With Us." The goal is to make golf more accessible to young players.
"This initiative is important to me because it helps grow the game of golf," Srenstam explains. "We're giving young kids the opportunity to play golf at a lower cost. By signing up for a yearly membership, they can play on thousands of courses for five dollars or less. We hope that this access will allow them to try the sport and fall in love with it."
Srenstam also points out that golf teaches important life skills. "Golf requires a lot of patience. Patience is crucial in life, both on and off the course," she says.
She also mentions discipline, focus, and determination as key qualities developed through golf, which are also valuable in other areas of life.
