Eric Dane, the actor famous for playing Dr. Mark Sloan, or 'McSteamy,' on the hit medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy,' has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Dane shared the news in an interview with People magazine, explaining his reasons for making his health condition public.
ALS, often called Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. This means it gradually damages nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. As the disease progresses, people with ALS lose the ability to control muscle movement, which can affect speaking, eating, moving, and breathing.
Despite his diagnosis, Dane is determined to continue his acting career. He has plans to return to his role on the popular HBO show 'Euphoria.' He expressed his commitment to managing his health while pursuing his passion for acting.
'I am facing this challenge with strength and optimism,' Dane told People. 'I am grateful for the support of my family, friends, and medical team. I remain committed to my work and look forward to what the future holds.'
More information on ALS and resources for patients and their families can be found at the ALS Association website.
